Letting Go

At the park with my daughters the other day, I thought I’d give the roller slide a try. It was a lot faster than a regular slide and very unfamiliar. About a quarter of the way down, I freaked and stopped myself by gripping the sides, but then I was stuck and didn’t have anywhere to go but down. My 7-year-old stood at the bottom and yelled up at me, “Let Go! It’s fun! Let Go!!! You have to let go!!”. After about 30 seconds, I cautiously let go and flew to the bottom. It was fun, I just had to let go. I find this to be a meaningful metaphor for my life. Too often I let fear stop me; fear of the unknown, failure, judgement. To “Let go!” – this is my resolution for the new year and I am grateful for the experience that brought this to light for me so I thought I’d make a reminder for my desk…

Inspirational stones from Family Chic.

Promises can be hard to keep – this will be my new mantra.

An alphabet rubber stamp set, ink pad and a stone are all you will need for this. Just stamp your message onto the stone and place on your bedside table or desk to jog you along throughout the year.

In 2012 I will stop trying to stop myself.

    well, those rolly slides ARE quite fast.
    i suppose if you can let go on one of those, you can let go almost anywhere.
    {i’m on the hunt for some nice, clear letter stamps like yours}

      Catie – those slides can be surprisingly fast 🙂
      I got my letter stamps at Michael’s several years ago – they always carry that sort of thing. I’m sure you could find them there now. Thanks for commenting.

    When I got to the last photo of this post, I just laughed out loud!! I wasn’t quite sure what a rolly slide was. Wow!! That would really send you sailing down! That is definitely one of those “just go for it and enjoy the ride” kind of things! I would have freaked a little too! So funny. I love your rock idea. My children have painted the names of herbs on rocks for me for my herb garden, but I never thought about a mantra. That’s a great idea…especially putting it on your bedside table. I think if we have constant reminders it does help us to remember how we want to live. I am going to do this idea. I’m going to make about 5 rocks, all with the same thing stamped on each one and place them in the places I will most see them in the house…the kitchen window sill, my bedside table, beside the toothbrush holder at my bathroom sink, by the coffee maker and beside my computer. Mine will say “be present in the moment”. That is my focus for 2012.

      Hi Bonnie! Wonderful idea to use rocks as herb markers! I love it! I am so happy to hear that you will try this project. For me, making resolutions is easy – it’s keeping to them – that is the hard part! I wish you the best of luck! 🙂 Take Care, Camilla
