In my life as a parent, I have learned that a hungry child will eat anything that you put in front of her. Food that was once pushed to the side and thought of as undesirable will be eagerly consumed if the child is truly ravenous. You might wonder, what could possibly incite such an insatiable appetite in a child. The answer is – swimming and I have learned to take advantage of this. When we go to the beach for the afternoon, I only bring the good stuff – I give them no other options. I pack a bag of cut veggies, a package of almonds, some bananas, dried cranberries and any other healthy snack that I can pull together. When my kids get out of the water, the food is almost instantly devoured and I feel pretty good about it. When it comes to kids and nutrition, I find you have to strike while the iron is hot.
