A Small Garden Tour of Wave Hill in Bronx, NY

On a recent trip to visit my family in NJ, my husband and I discovered the most impressive public garden — Wave Hill in Bronx, NY. Here are a few photos from that day…

We spent one afternoon at Wave Hill in Bronx, NY. The backdrop of the Hudson River and The Palisades are what make Wave Hill one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen in my life. Would be a wonderful spot for a wedding.

There are 28 acres of natural beauty at Wave Hill. Enormous trees, some over 100 years old, help to create a setting that feels like your walking through a Jane Austen novel. We explored the grounds for a few hours.

Signature Wave Hill chairs can be found here and there – it's hard to resist flopping down and relaxing in all of this lush greenery.

The Wave Hill chair – these are available for sale in the gift shop.

Wave Hill House – built in 1843 – was leased to Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. in the 1870s and Mark Twain from 1901-03. Today the home is available for events.

My husband and I bought lunch at the Wave Hill House cafe and ate it out on the terrace. The weather was perfect – we could have stayed there all day.

The main greenhouse is stunning – I love the pale blue portico and the potted plants that surround the entryway.

Wave Hill has a stepped garden layout – each level has its own walled garden.

So smartly designed – the view is striking from all angles.

This is what we saw when we reached the top of the stepped hill – the most beautiful water garden.

It's dreamlike.

So many places to sit.

I love the large, heart-shaped leaf of Dutchman's Pipe – this one is a beauty.

I love these Lemon Cypress topiaries.

Wave Hill in Bronx, NY – this is only a glimpse, there is so much more to see. Give it a visit!
