Every summer, I like to give each of my daughters a large planter to fill with whatever plants they choose; their own little gardens to care for. Instead of annuals, we decided to go with Strawberries this year…
You can imagine how excited the kids were to see the flowers turn into strawberries. They were amazed and delighted.
It didn't take much to make this happen. I just filled an extra large pot with potting soil and let my kids plant the strawberry plants themselves. They are responsible for watering their little gardens on a regular basis and harvesting the fruit.
Why plant in containers? It's easier and we have a yard that is short on space and big on rabbits who will munch away on any tasty thing we plant in the ground.
