Getting Away

We just got back from visiting my family out east. To squeeze the most out of these last days of summer, we decided to drive instead of fly and take a few detours along the way. Traveling from Illinois to New Jersey and back again gave us a lot of territory to choose from. On the way out we stopped in Niagra Falls, NY and took in the incredible natural beauty there — we’d never been before, it was stunning. We viewed the falls from the rim and then donned the provided rain coats and took The Maid of The Mist Boat Tour to see the falls from below.

On our return home, we dropped into The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While we were there, three hours seemed to slip through our hands in no time at all. The museum is housed in a seven-story building that is filled with the artist’s work, a few of his personal possessions as well as stories and photos from his childhood. We were engrossed in all the museum had to offer; even the cafe was charming and well-appointed.

The Andy Warhol Museum – this is the place to be if you're in Pittsburgh. Several films and videos to see as well as interactive installments keep you engaged and thinking. I walked away feeling inspired. I wish it were closer to us — I'd be in there all of the time.

Check this out – it's a DIY Pop app from the Warhol Museum that allows you to turn any photo into a Warhol-inspired digital silkscreen. Now you can make your own Warhol – click on the image to get the link.
