Spending The Afternoon In A Cave

Took the kids to The Field Museum again the other day, this time we saw the Lascaux cave paintings exhibit. Now we are craving to learn all that we can about these incredible 20,000 year old paintings accidentally discovered on the inside walls of a forgotten cave in France. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend that you grab the kids and go ASAP — the exhibit ends on September 9th. Do yourself a favor and do it like this: first watch Werner Herzog’s documentary, “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” (try Netflix or your library) about similar cave paintings discovered in the Chauvet Cave in southern France and then take the kids to the Field Museum’s Lascaux exhibit. You won’t be disappointed – it’s all riveting.

If you live in the Chicago area, I urge you to take a family trip to the Field Museum's Lascaux exhibit — it is fascinating and beautiful.
