The Love ‘Em and Leaf ‘Em Valentine

I picked up a $3.99 bunch of greenery in my supermarket and stitched love into the leaves.

To make this work you will need a thick leaf - a thin leaf won't do. The leaves I purchased were a standard filler foliage that is commonly used in arrangements.

Using a pen, gently draw out your design on the leaf. I used red embroidery thread and a back stitch. I found that holding the leaf up to the window backlit it and allowed me to see where to pierce the leaf from the back.

Keep your embroidered branch of leaves in a vase of water and it will do great. Also, you could preserve it by pressing the branch in a book.

What an ingenious idea, it’s so fun to see greenery and embroidery thread together! I love all your sewing projects, it makes a beginner like me not so afraid of them 🙂

Molly – That is so great to hear! Just start with the basic stitches and you won’t be able to stop yourself from moving on from there. 🙂 have a great weekend, Camilla

This is such a super duper cute idea! I keep dreaming of doing something crafty with the slew of cactus paddles I have in my yard (sans pokers) maybe with a larger needle and thread I could embroider something on them. Actually might have to use a Dremel and drill holes first. I digress, thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks! They are still looking fresh – I was thinking of posting a photo of them in their current condition to show my readers how well they have held up. I have them in a vase of water and they look as good as the first day. I was going to press and frame them, but I can’t seem to part with the way they look right now 🙂 Thanks for the comment! C
