Make a gift box from a paper grocery bag… (If you like this one, be sure to check out my paper bag yo-yo’s and my grocery bag redo too.)
This DIY gift box is great way to wrap a small gift in a special way.
It even has a handle.
When I work with paper bags, I like to condition the paper a bit and add interesting texture to it by wrinkling it up and then smoothing it out. Once the paper looks the way I like, I cut out 6, 5-inch squares from the paper.
Using the serge function on my sewing machine and red thread, I sewed four panels together.
I then sewed on the base panel and sewed together 3 edges of the top panel (leave one edge open to insert your gift). I stuffed the box with a bit of tissue paper to fill it out, placed my gift inside and sewed the last edge closed.
Box with all 6 sides attached and gift inside.
Punch two holes into the top panel (across from each other) and string a strand of jute or yarn through the holes, add a gift tag and double knot both ends to secure.
The note is attached to the handle.
To open, just tear off the top.
