For me, the summer is about escape and change; as a family we get to escape the everyday routines of the school year and change our world. I am a big believer in the power our surroundings have on us. I like to create interesting and surprising changes to our home and garden to stimulate and lift our moods and the laid-back days of summer create the perfect setting for these playful ideas. This type of thing doesn’t cost a penny because I use items we already own – it just takes a little time and thought. This morning, I surprised the girls with a backyard breakfast in bed. I set up a cot with pillows, sheets and a quilt (it was a bit chilly here this a.m.) and served them breakfast in bed in the backyard. They just rolled out of their beds and came outside to enjoy a beautiful morning and a simple breakfast in their pajamas…
