When I was young our teachers would ask us to bring in an old shirt from our dads’ closets to be worn backwards as a painting smock. I’ve adjusted this idea a bit to create a fun and stylish look. With a few cuts you can create a cute smock for your child – no need to pull out the sewing machine for this.
You'll need a menswear button-down shirt. Cut off the collar, cuffs, front placket and the bottom of the shirt (to create a straight edge rather than curved) and use the placket as a belt and you've got it.
The buttons and buttonholes on the front placket allows this belt to function quite well. You can adjust the size easily.
Cut off the collar, 1/2 of the length of the sleeves, the front placket and about 1/8 off the bottom.
Button the placket end to end to create an adjustable belt that buttons closed at varying lengths.
I folded up the sleeves a few times.
I’m listening to Amy Winehouse today.
