Paper Umbrella Wreath

Paper cocktail parasols – available at party supply stores – are fun and festive. I made this simple project by sticking the parasols into a grapevine wreath and in minutes, I had a bright new look. You could also use a foam wreath.

I didn't even need to use glue – the parasols stay in place quite well on their own which makes this a great craft for kids too – no mess.

To cover the wreath completely, overlap the parasols by placing some in deeper than the others. I also used two different sizes for variation.

I used about 40 umbrellas to make this wreath. For a large package of parasols, check out Party City – you can get bag of 144 for $5.00. I was also able to find larger parasols at World Market.

  34. Shasta  March 21, 2012

Did you use glue or anything or do they stay on there own?

    • camilla  March 21, 2012

Hi There! No, I did not use glue. I just stuck them into the grapevine wreath and they stayed on their own. If you prefer, you could always dab the ends of the umbrellas with hot glue before you stick them into the wreath. I did find my technique worked and when I was ready for a change, I removed the umbrellas and went with a different look. Let me know how it turns out.
Thanks and have a great day, Camilla

  35. emily  March 22, 2012

do you think using a foam wreath would work?

    • camilla  March 22, 2012

Hi Emily! Thanks for stopping by. I don’t see why not – I used the grapevine wreath because that was what I had in my supplies. I think the foam would work too. Best of luck and let me know, Camilla

I made one of these for my party using a straw wreath and just poking them in. Worked great! Thanks for such a darling idea.

  39. Elizabeth  July 11, 2012

I have been plotting my trip to the party store since I saw this on Pinterest. Last night I made my very own. I used a straw/hay wreath and found that it holds onto those little umbrellas very well. So cute. I think grand total was $15 for me including the wreath and all the parasols and now I have about 60 left to do another wreath. Thanks for the so cute idea!

I just made the wreath with the drink umbrellas. I used a pool noodle from the dollar store for the form. They had a sign that said “Tiki Bar” added it to the middle of the wreath and a pair of flip flops. It turned out very cute. I just loved the one you had done. I will pin a picture on pinterest.

  48. Sarah Mathis  June 2, 2013

I just love your idea. We are having a little baby girl shower later this month. Do they make the umbrellas in solid color’s like pink or white.?

    • camilla  June 2, 2013

Hi Sarah – not sure – I haven’t seen them. You could search online. All the best, C
