Quick Stitched Holiday Cards

Easy designs are sketched onto a card with pencil and then stitched over with embroidery floss. If you keep the design simple – these cards are easy as pie to make…

Simple designs work the best for this project. For example, have your kids draw a simple stick tree and then go over their design with stitches.

Sometimes the easiest designs are more modern looking.

You can add a written message too.

Couldn't resist using this technique on a few pieces of cardboard too. French knots are meant to look like Christmas lights and the addition of a few jingle bells add a merry touch.

For this project you will need: blank cards (available at craft stores and Paper Source), embroidery floss, a needle and a pencil.

To begin, draw out your design in pencil – or have your kids do it for you.

Using your needle, poke holes into the ends of each line – this will make it easier to stitch.

Thread your needle and start stitching. I used straight stitches and french knots.

So easy!!!

Hi Camilla! I was looking in my stats and found your link in the “traffic”. I am sooooo glad I did!! I was JUST thinking about you and your blog the other day!! I remembered all of the beautiful and wonderful, inspiring ideas you ALWAYS post about! Anyhow, I was drawing a total blank and could not think of your blog name and I wanted to visit your blog so bad…it was on the tip of my tongue, but I just couldn’t find it in the “rolodex” in my brain! LOL! I’m so sorry, somehow I just lost track of visiting your blog! I just LOVE these cards you’ve made with the embroidery floss! Absolutely adorable! I want to make some for my sisters! I have 3 sisters and they would appreciate something like this. By they way, your French knots are excellent!!! Mine always seem to have one little loop sticking out! I need more practice with those. What is your secret for getting them so tight and perfect. Mine are a bit sloppy.
