Carved Cork Magnets

Wine corks are sliced, carved, inked and hot glued to magnets to make a cool set for the office or fridge.

One cork makes 5 magnets.

For this project you will need: wine corks, magnets (available at craft stores) a heavy duty XActo Knife, an ink pad, hot glue gun, cutting board and a sharp knife.

Cut a slice of cork that is about a 1/3 of an inch thick. Using a pencil, lightly draw out your shape. Cut out your design with an XActo Knife.

The best way to cut out your design is to do it in three stages. First, cut from the top -- following your pencil line with the XActo knife - keep it straight and make small, careful movements.

Then, score the perimeter of the cork about 1/4 of the way down from the top.

Pull away the outside area of your design to reveal the relief.

Gently blot or rub your cork on an ink pad to give it color. If you don't have an ink pad you can use a regular Sharpie, a paint pen or craft paint and a small brush.

Allow ink to dry and hot glue a magnet to the back.
