Funny & Fake Braid Hat

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Yarn braids are stitched into the inside of a plain hat to give it a fun and funky twist.

I picked up this basic hat in my supermarket for only $0.99! I loved the color, shape and fit - so I grabbed it right away. It took me only 15 minutes to turn it into an amusing fashion statement for my girls.

To make this- turn hat inside out and using a sewing needle attach yarn braids to the interior sides of the hat. Turn inside out and fold rim up to cover your stitches.

3 rhinestone pins add holiday sparkle to a simple corduroy skirt.

I chose pins similar in size, style and color. This works best on a thicker skirt material such as denim or corduroy.

A few things to consider regarding this idea – if you are around very young children – don’t try this. Toddlers will grab at the pins or accidentally scratch themselves on them. Also – choose pins with a smooth setting -  you don’t want to snag the lining of your coat.

Rip Off This Skirt Idea

I found this great skirt in a thrift store. I loved the pattern and the fabric, but the length was too long. Making a cut at my desired length, I gently pulled the threads to create a rough fringe along the bottom. In an instant, I had the look I wanted.

Interesting floral patterns always grab my eye.

With a simple top - the look stays crisp instead of messy.
