An Evening with Apartment Therapy’s Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Maxwell took a moment to sign my book and have a chat during his book signing event at Ligne Roset in Chicago last night.

Sometimes I will pass by an interesting looking home and wish I could just knock on the door and ask for a look inside. Or, if I see someone who has a stylish and unique way about them, I’ll wonder what their home must look like. I don’t really care if it’s “right” or “wrong”, I just enjoy seeing personality coming through in a space. This is why I love Apartment Therapy – I get to see how other people are living. People who love their homes and have a sincere interest in making their spaces fun, peaceful and inspiring.

How happy I was to receive an invite to Apartment Therapy’s Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan’s book signing at Ligne Roset in Chicago.  His latest book, Apartment Therapy’s Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces, is a must have (if you love the blog, you’ll adore the book – beautiful photographs and helpful, gentle guidance throughout). I was thrilled to get a chance to talk with Maxwell – he and his staff were all really lovely – very committed to their work. It’s so nice to see such a positive and open-minded look at home decorating.

Next stop on the book tour is L.A., Dallas and then Atlanta – all coming up soon so, check out Apartment Therapy for dates and times. If you can make the event – you should – you’ll have a great time. I’ve posted a few clips of Maxwell’s presentation in case you weren’t able to make it last night…

Maxwell is so affable and sincere - you can tell he loves his work. We talked about the importance of genuine self expression in the home.

I Love Sock and Glove!

The book - Sock and Glove, Creating Charming Softy Friends from Cast-off Socks and Gloves by Miyako Kanamori - inspired me today.

Using a $3.00 pair of white chenille gloves from CVS, Jane and I made this adorable bunny (design by Miyako Kanamori) in less than 25 minutes.

I did the sewing, Jane did the cutting and stuffing.

Here are some glovedogs by Miyako. There are so many charming patterns and ideas in this book - I highly recommend it.

Here is a link to Amazon – Sock and Glove is priced at under $10.00!
