Boring Vases Get “Hosed”

Flower arrangements are usually delivered in basic glass vases. I think we all have that moment when the flowers pass and we wonder if we should chuck or donate the left over vase to a thrift store. Having had a birthday recently, I have a few of these vases floating around the house. I came up with a simple way to transform these generic vessels into something you might actually want to display… and all it took to get the job done was a trip to the hosiery department at Macy’s.

A pair of hot pink tights (purchased in the clearance section for $8.00) were cut up to create a covering for an average glass vase.

Glass vases in their before state.

There are so many great looking patterned and brightly colored solid tights on the market right now. I particularly like the neon colors - however - I am too old to pull the look off myself. Apparently, a lot of people must feel the same way - as I always find them deeply discounted in the clearance bins! These hot pink tights from HUE were the perfect color for this project.

Just cut a section from the leg of the tights that is long enough to cover the entire vase - you'll need an opening at both ends. Turn vase upside down and slip cover over it.

Just slip the tights on and let the ends roll into the opening of the vase and under the base.

This covering fits all sizes and transforms a set of boring vases into a collection that really grabs the eye.

The tights give this vase an interesting matte finish.

I LOVE this idea! My mom gave me a box of knee high tights of all different colors (early 80’s) and I cut them to make tube dresses/tops/skirts for my barbies. I hadn’t thought about that in a long time, but this post reminded me! I love this grown up version of the same thing! Found your blog today, I can’t stop reading every single page of it! Thanks! -elyse
